Verisign in the Community

At Verisign we take seriously our responsibility as corporate citizens in the communities that we live and work in. Our corporate social responsibility programme was shaped by employees to reflect the issues that are most important to them and the world they live in. Through our Verisign Cares programme, we make “giving back” part of our everyday lives.

Our mission with Verisign Cares is to make a positive and lasting impact on the global Internet community and the communities in which we live and work.

Internet Infrastructure Grant Programme

Without vision, hard work and creativity, the Internet would not have evolved into the resource we know and use today. In honour of the 25th anniversary of .com, Verisign has created a grant programme to foster new research, advance security and stability and improve the Internet infrastructure for the next 25 years to come. Verisign will be awarding four $75,000 grants in early 2011 with the goal of strengthening the Internet infrastructure in the following areas:

Overall Internet Infrastructure
Domain Name System (DNS) Security
Internationalisation of the Internet
Infrastructure Applications

Matching Gifts

Verisign employees donate to more than 314 different non-profit organisations around the world to support charitable efforts that are important to them. To maximise the impact of these donations, Verisign Cares matches employee contributions dollar for dollar, up to $1,500 per calendar year. We at Verisign are proud to support so many non-profit organisations working to improve the world we live in.

Volunteerism

Verisign Cares organises Monthly Volunteer Day Out opportunities to support our communities. Past efforts include:

Operation Homefront
Operation Homefront provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors. Verisign employees have helped package Valentine’s Day gift bags for children of active military families and stuffed 400 backpacks with supplies through the Back to School Drive.

Loudoun Habitat for Humanity
Loudoun Habitat for Humanity in Virginia believes that everyone deserves an opportunity to work to obtain adequate shelter. Verisign employees participated in a recent home restoration project through the Neighbourhood Stabilisation Programme, which aims to stabilise home values in areas highly impacted by foreclosures.

Worldwide Earth Day
On Worldwide Earth Day in April, more than 20 percent of Verisign employees volunteered and participated in environmental initiatives in their local communities:

In Fribourg, Switzerland, our employees participated in recycling efforts.
Employees in Melbourne, Australia, supported local non-profit organisations with their clean-up campaigns.
Dulles, Virginia, employees supported regional and national parks in their spring clearing and planting activities.
In Bangalore, India, employees helped initiate environmental education.
